Kasos Island

Kasos is located in the most southern region of the Eastern Aegean and lies between Creta and Karpathos islands. It has an area of 64 square kms.

The land is mountainous and rocky with few areas suitable for agriculture. The visitor to the mountains of the island will find rare wildflowers and birds species.
The earliest traces of human habitation on the island date from the Final Neolithic/Early Bronze Age (4th and 3rd millennia BC). There are indications of permanent settlement, with strong Minoan influences, at the southwest end of the island, around the safe Khelastros bay, during the Middle and Late Bronze Age (until circa 1450 BC)..

The capital Fry is the only port. Beside the port for ferries is the small harbor of Bouka ,rare example of an old pirate refuge, where fishing boats moor and the fishermen drinking coffee at a traditional coffee shop and  selling their fish.

White houses with courtyards quite impressive mixed with  the past, rich timesin the villages the houses are whitewashed the streets are paved. The main professional occupation of inhabitants is farming, agriculture , fishing, large sheep and goat production and cheese making products.

The coastline of Kasos  is full of all kinds of beaches. It is impossible for any visitor not to find in Kasos a  beach to suit.

Like every insular cuisine, also here, dishes which made with seafood have a special place.

The most characteristics plates are  "soupiopilafo" made of ink of fresh squid and rise!
One of the most black dish at the worldwide cuisine!

And Pasta with caramelized onions and sheep's cheese called "makarounes".

You can go to Kasos Islands by ship from Creta and Piraeus.

By airplane from Athens via Crete, Rhodes and Karpathos
Enjoy
