Samos Island

 Samos  Island has  the legend and the beauty.Samos Is the island of the father of mathematics, Pythagoras, the astronomer Aristarchus (designed the first heliocentric map and others) and philosopher Epicurus. 
It is the home of Ira and the land that hosted Herodotus and Aisopus.



Samos Island lies in the heart of Central Aegean sea, 1200 meters from the shore of Asia Minor. Its area is 477,395 km2.

                                      

What to say about  Pythagoras...?Some of the basic..

 Pythagoras , was a major Greek philosopher, mathematician, geometer and music theorist. It is the chief founder of mathematics,- is known for the Pythagorean theorem that has been taken his name..- created a robust system for the science of celestial bodies that embodies all the relevant arithmetic and geometric proofs and was a founder initiatory philosophical movement called Pythagorism .

 The temple of Ira , the Heraion was described by Herodotus as "the largest temple in Greece of his time."
It dipteral Ionic, with 155 gigantic columns.
Characteristic for the level of construction is the existion of a network of of clay pipes for the drainage of waters from the rain.

  
 The UNESCO included the temple and the surrounding archaeological area of Pythagorean in the monuments of world cultural heritage.

Excavations at the sacred site of Heraion started before one hundred twenty-five years and continue to this day . Almost the entire area of the church came to light . The great temple , altars , smaller temples , houses and innumerable findings reveal a great civilization which shone in the region.  

 The cult of Hera of Samos was not only National but as shown by the numerous finds ` was extended to the entire world then . In addition to the offerings of Samian and other Greeks to the great goddess , found and specials from Cyprus , Egypt , and even the countries of Asia Minor and M. East .

        This museum has 2 parts: the Paleontological Museum and the Natural History Museum .

        Botanical

  The botanical section of the museum has, until now, a collection of about 3000 specimens of the flora of 

Samos and the Aegean in the form of the Herbarium.

  Samos is an island scattered with churches, monasteries and Metohija. Most monasteries were built during the 16th century, and there are chapels and churches dating from the 10th and 11th century.

Mammals habitat : hedgehogs , rabits , blachymous , jackals , badgers . Amphibians and reptiles : green toads , marsh frogs , river turtles  , Greek tortoises , chameleons , snakes , vipers , lizards etc. Birds : recorded 127 bird species among which is little egrets , flamingos , glossy ibis , kastanopapies , Barbary partridge island , fidaetoi , long-legged buzzards , Black-winged Stilts , moustakoglarona etc. many of which are classified as rare or endangered .

 Over 1400 species of rare plants, many of which are endemic and dozens of species of birds of prey, will make you feel

 Wine is the main product of Samos.The Muscat Wine which is produced since antiquity is well known all over the world.

 Fresh fish daily at the fishing ports , in fish markets  almost in every village.
