Poros Island



Poros (Greek: Πόρος) is a small Greek Island in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf.
 
Is an island with rich vegetation. 
Much of the northern and far eastern/western sides of the island are bushy, whereas large areas of old pine forest are found in the south and center of the island. 





The landscape is very hilly and mountainous.
The western and northern part of the island feature smooth hills and shallow valleys.
  



Poros is built amphitheatrically and stands out for its unique color and atmosphere.  
Wander through the picturesque narrow streets of the traditional town of Poros with its white washed houses, breathe the sea breeze, enjoy the sunset from the town clock and Gaze over the picturesque sea passage with boats to commute across the bay.




 

The traditional town of Poros, Kanali, Askeli, and Neorio are the most popular tourist resorts for accommodation and entertainment.

  




Shop at the many shops with folk art, make your walks with boats located on the waterfront, guided the culinary delights of the island with ouzo, seafood and local dishes in taverns and have fun at the bars along the beach or dance with traditional island groups in the taverns of Poros.

Sandy beaches are restricted to the southern shore of the island, except for a bay in the northern part called Vayionia. 









The paths in the piney highlands of Poros is ideal for lovers of hiking and mountain biking

The Archaeological Museum of Poros, houses findings from the Sanctuary of Poseidon, from ancient Troizen, and from other archaeological sites nearby. 



The Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, founded in 1720 a.d is located 4km east of the main city of Poros island, is built on the slope of a pine forest. 



Built on a green hillside overlooking the sea, a sample insular monastic architecture. Combines tranquility  simplicity and charm.  
At the entrance of the monastery is the famous source for its healing properties, from which it took its name 

The Lemon Grove is a large area filled with lots of lemon and water mills. From the top, the view is panoramic in Lemon Grove. It's a forest, more than 30,000 lemon trees orange trees interspersed with taverns. Green lemon trees orange trees smell delicious and are a great place
for romantic walks.



To go to Poros Island you should take the ferry boat from  the port of Piraeus, depart daily , takes both passengers and cars. The journey time is 2 hours. With flying dolphins daily hydrofoil to Poros take passengers only, and not cars, journey time is approximately 1 hour
